Karen Kingsbury

My mom, sister (Sandra), and my Aunt Carol all went to First Christian Church in Kernersville to see Karen Kingsbury. This was the weekend that I was at the beach. Otherwise, I definitely would've been there. For those of you who don't know who she is, or haven't read any of her books, I urge you to do so! She is one of my very favorite Christian authors and I'm very picky about my books! My mom is an avid reader/collector of her books so she turned me on to them.

If you decide to check it out, you need to start with the Redemption Series. It is about the Baxter Family who has 5 grown children and what happens in each of their lives-you know... marriage, kids, loves/losts, trials/tribulations. There are 5 books in that series and then comes the First Born Series with 5 more books following the same family in addition to new characters. And finally, the Sunrise series is in progress now. There will be 4 books and the 3rd one is coming out next week! I can't wait! Again, it follows the same family and new ones along the way. I'm telling you once you pick one up, you can't put it down! They are very addictive.

Even better than those are the children's books that she's writing. If you have a son, you absolutely have to buy "Let Me Hold You Longer" for him or just for yourself. It is about how we recognize our children's "firsts" and record them all, but we never know when something is going to be their "last" and it asks God to let us hold on longer to every precious last. If that one doesn't make you sob enough, the other one that's a MUST is "Be Safe Little Boy." This takes you through each stage of your son's life from a mother's perspective and the little prayers we say for them along the way and asks them to always cling to God. I can't read either one of these without sobbing! I've already bought each for Carter and I will get copies for Cooper, too. There's a little girl version of this book, too, but it's for Dads, which would be a great Father's Day gift if you have a daughter!

Anyway, if you like to read, I hope you'll share my love of Karen Kingsbury's wonderful books!

Crop 'til you Drop!

And that's exactly what we did! I haven't had that much fun in a long time! I went to the beach for the weekend with my scrapbooking group. It's such a diverse group of women, yet we all have at least this one thing in common and we have a great time together. We rented a huge house and the 13 of us were crammed into every nook and cranny. We got spoiled because Debbie waited on us hand and foot. She fixed breakfast, lunch, dinner, desserts, snacks, and drinks all weekend! All we had to do was sleep (just a little), eat, and crop! We stayed up until about 2am and giggled like school girls. We're already looking forward to the next one!

Snow Much Fun!

Carter and Cooper had fun playing in the snow/rain/ice, what little we got! We're still hoping for one good snow before winter is over!

Out of the Mouths of Babes

Kids say the most hilarious things! I was teaching a 2nd grade group today and we were working on words that end with "unk." When I got to d, I asked if "dunk" is a word. One little girl said, "Yes, you know how when you're dating somebody and when you break up with them, you dunk them!" Well, there you go!

On another note, when I took Cooper to the doctor about his arm, his nurse had a beautiful accent-sort of South African or English sounding. I almost asked her where she was from, but decided not to. Yes, this story has a point-stay with me...We have finally settled on a church after visiting around for the past year. I went to Sunday school for the first time this past Sunday and it just so happens that the same nurse was in my class. For some reason, she mentioned that about a year ago, she had an illness that results in leaving your voice with an accent. It's a very rare illness and only 40 people in the U.S. have it. I have NEVER heard of such! I was so interested in it, that I tried searching it on the internet, but I don't know the name of it, so if anyone out there knows anything about it, please tell me! I just think things like that are amazing!

About church, I'm so glad to start feeling like I actually belong again! I really enjoyed my Sunday school class and Carter enjoyed his. We went to church last night, too. I am taking a class about women in the bible and Carter is learning about Bible heroes.

We had a babysitter for the first time here tonight because David and I had to go to a YMCA dinner. Her name is Mandy and the boys called her "Handy Mandy" all night! She lives in our neighborhood, which is great for her to be able to walk here and it's nice knowing her parents are a few houses down. It went really well! They had a great time and played a game where Cooper was a fish and the couch was the water so they kept trying to "catch" him. What a relief for us that everything was great!
